Great! Let’s start with the professional side. Tell us about your experience in logistics. Six months is already a solid start! What brought you into this industry?

Yes, it’s only been six months. Before that, I worked as a hockey coach. But logistics had always attracted me because of its fast pace and strong potential for growth. It’s a constant challenge, with interesting problems to solve, and I see a lot of opportunities for development here. In logistics, just like in hockey, teamwork and strategic thinking are essential.

Interesting transition! What does logistics actually mean to you? How would you describe it?

For me, logistics is the art of optimization. Delivering the right goods to the right place, at the right time, and at the lowest possible cost is only the tip of the iceberg. In reality, it is much more complex and interesting than it may seem at first glance. It is an entire system of interconnected processes that requires precision, quick decision-making, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Tell us about your work at our company. What do you like most about it?

I like the team spirit, the lack of unnecessary bureaucracy, and the fact that initiative is valued here. Every day brings new challenges, and that’s great! I’m constantly learning and developing here.

If you had to describe our company in just two words, what would they be?

Energy and growth.

Great! Let’s move on to some more personal questions. What hobbies do you have besides hockey, which you’ve been playing since childhood?

Hockey is my passion, but I also enjoy fishing, and I have plenty of other interests as well. I’m always learning or trying something new.

Impressive! What are you reading at the moment?

Right now, I’m reading a book on practical psychology. I recently finished At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft.

Interesting choice! Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you?

“All the gods, all the heavens, all the hells are within us.” I like the depth of this quote. It reminds me that our happiness and well-being depend on our own decisions and the way we choose to look at life.

A wise thought. What’s your superpower? What do you think you’re best at?

Probably the ability to stay calm in any situation. It helps me a lot, both at work and in everyday life.

I agree. What skill would you like to develop in the future?

Project management in logistics. I want to learn how to coordinate every stage effectively — from suppliers to end customers — in order to optimize processes and achieve better results.

50-Ton Charter from India ✔

We can finally share the story of a completed large-scale and highly urgent shipment of equipment from India.

This was not our first charter, but in terms of the number of challenges that arose at almost every stage, this case definitely takes first place and will remain one of the most memorable for us!

The task was to transport oversized equipment from India to Russia within a very tight timeframe.

We proposed the most efficient solution in terms of both speed and cost: ship as much cargo as possible on a charter flight and send the remaining part on a scheduled service.

The main difficulty was that the cargo had to be shipped from two different airports — Chennai and Mumbai. The entire shipment was first delivered to Chennai Airport for customs clearance. After that, part of the cargo departed for Russia on a charter flight, while the remaining part was transported to Mumbai for departure three days later.

From the outside, arranging a charter may seem simple: book an aircraft with an airline and proceed as usual. In reality, there are always countless details that need to be considered, and any unexpected situation can become extremely costly — sometimes even in the form of a few extra grey hairs :)

The first challenge was the exporter’s registration in ICEGATE. We ran into difficulties almost immediately, as the system kept generating one error after another. Major public holidays in India made the situation even more complicated, and it was impossible to resolve the technical issue quickly. To put it simply, ICEGATE is somewhat similar to Russia’s government services portal.

At the same time, another challenge appeared: we found out that cargo trucks in India are only allowed to move at night. The days we had planned with what seemed like a comfortable time buffer suddenly became extremely tight. We monitored the shipment throughout the route and stayed in constant contact with the drivers so that we could react quickly in case of any emergency. Ready for anything 💪 Despite the tight schedule, we managed to complete this stage in just 2.5 days! But we still had no idea what was waiting for us next...

Another challenge to add to the list was the lengthy approval process for securing the cargo inside the aircraft. This included preparing the lashing points at the factory before the cargo was loaded onto the aircraft.

All approvals were coordinated with Volga-Dnepr Airlines. We are endlessly grateful to our colleagues, especially the operations team and Viktor Samarin, for their comprehensive support and for organizing the charter flight. We truly could not have managed without you. We greatly value our cooperation 🤝

It is worth noting that even the slightest discrepancy can give the airline grounds to refuse the shipment, which is entirely understandable. That is why we approached this stage with the utmost seriousness.

The equipment was oversized and non-standard — as you can see in the photos — so our agent visited the shipper twice to inspect everything personally, verify the preparations, and resolve all outstanding issues.

The next obstacle was export customs clearance. Normally, customs clearance in India is completed quite quickly, but in our case it seemed endless. There were checks, inspections, and additional examinations.

During this time, our aircraft departed for the designated location, arrived, completed its required rest period, remained in the waiting area, and eventually began accumulating ground time. But an aircraft cannot wait forever.

Then came the moment when the airline informed us that the aircraft had to depart within two hours — with the cargo or without it.

Without going into every detail, we managed to resolve the customs clearance issue and the cargo was released.

And then we caught another couple of “lucky breaks”: a severe downpour began and… the forklift broke down 🤯

You may ask — what is so critical about a broken forklift?

The problem was that this was a special 10-ton forklift designed for oversized cargo. Usually, there are only one or two of these available at an entire airport, so finding a replacement is extremely difficult.

Still, we found a solution. We began loading the cargo using the aircraft’s built-in hoisting system. The downside was that this method took several times longer.

Meanwhile, the airline’s agent continued searching for another forklift — and found one a couple of hours later! The remaining half of the cargo was loaded using the replacement equipment.

Interestingly enough, the forklift at Moscow Cargo also broke down during unloading.

The aircraft engineer also dislocated his shoulder. He was taken to hospital, received first aid, and safely returned to Russia. Fortunately, he was fine :)

After that, the first part of the shipment finally departed, and we could breathe a little easier.

But there was still the second part. Once the first shipment had departed from Chennai, the remaining cargo was transported to Mumbai Airport under the supervision of our agents.

It is also worth mentioning that our agents accompanied the cargo from the factory, monitored it at the airport, assisted with export customs clearance, and supervised loading onto the aircraft.

The second shipment did not go quite as smoothly as we would have liked, but there were far fewer difficulties. The aircraft experienced some minor technical issues, which the airline successfully resolved, and the flight departed.

After that, everything went smoothly — except, of course, for the broken forklift at Moscow Cargo.

Once the cargo was released in Moscow, our colleague even went to the terminal personally to monitor the loading into the truck and inspect the condition of the cargo.

In the end, the entire shipment was delivered within the agreed timeframe, safe and intact, and handed over to the consignee with care 💗

Our team spent countless hours on joint calls with all parties involved to coordinate every single point and every small detail.

Thanks to our well-coordinated teamwork, we were able to overcome all the obstacles effectively and complete the project on time.

We would also like to emphasize that the purpose of this story is simply to show how complex charter operations can be — and how we somehow managed to hit the jackpot of almost every possible challenge at once.
